In recent news, and world events we have heard about the conflict that is ongoing between Russia and Georgia. The timing of this conflict couldn’t be better, especially with Olympics on and the world not really paying attention. If you check any major news website you will see the crisis in Georgia beaten out by three news stories, John Edwards Scandal, Olympic Report, and Popular Road Trips. Sadly the situation in Georgia comes in fourth, and it only proves my point that this is a perfect time for Russia to invade there fallen soviet comrade. Everyone is paying attention to something else and only seem to refer to the conflict whenever they hear it on the news, but don’t be fooled they only speak of it for about a minute. Sadly enough it simply goes without true feeling and no real response from the world. The “Great” European Union offered this stupid and ineffective cease-fire that would make Hitler laugh, and of course Russia denied this. Sadly enough Georgia has been, for about five years now, asking for the UN to help out their situation. And like what the UN does best, nothing of course, stated that Georgia was not in any danger, this of course was stated again about a week ago. Oppsss. Many Americans don’t want to send our troops into war, and I agree, but also now more than ever Americans are challenging Obama’s foreign policy. And what does Obama say, “For many months, I have warned that there needs to be active international engagement to peacefully address the disputes over South Ossetia and Abkhazia, including a high-level and neutral international mediator, and a genuine international peacekeeping force – not simply Russian troops.”(Obama Statement of the situation) Peacekeeping force I wonder who would be the ones who will be sending there troops, wait I do know it would be us. McCain wants a cease-fire to be immediately achieved, followed by humanitarian efforts to the Georgia people, and immediate response from the UN. Now I do cringe at the UN comment from McCain but it a lot better then already talking physical retribution that could set off the next cold war with Russia. My prayers go out to each and every victim of this desperate and unnecessary attack from Russia onto the Georgia people.
