Is John McCain the Man in the Arena?

This is a question that many of us, especially those conservative republicans, tend to ask themselves more now then ever. Senator McCain is the Republican Nominee for President, and has made a very impressive video that describes himself in the same view of historical legends as Winston Churchill & Theodore Roosevelt. But probably the most impressive thing that comes from this web ad is the fact that “the man in the arena,” quote and name of the ad connects with not just John McCain on the issues, but also connects with McCain chances of winning in November. History remembers such a quote from Theodore Roosevelt, and his chances winning after the McKinley assignation, and how of his odds and campaign style was nothing like the republican base then. Just like McCain and how he is not your typical republican, a maverick, a visionary, and probably the one who will setup the party for success in the future but none the less not your typical republican. McCain however is appealing to the American People, not just the typical ranks of the Republican Party, or to the high rollers, he simply attracts a new type of republican. “In the long run, he serves his party best who most helps to make it instantly responsive to ever need of the people, and to the highest demands of that spirit which tends to drive us onward and upward.” Again when looking at this quote from TR we see McCain through these words. Let’s face it, McCain has never been a party favorite, and in 2000 when he challenged a republican family name like Bush it was almost political suicide, but here he is, the nominee of our party. Are we so angry with this that we would give a Obama the reigns of the white house, and lets see what he can do for four years. I also would like to call on the fact that if Bush won a second term, and many of you republicans are sitting this election out with the hope that Obama wins so you can beat him in four years, that might not happen, and in fact I doubt it will, reminds me of the Bush scenario for a second term. Giving Obama the presidency seems to many a good idea because of what we hear and see, but what do we see, and quite frankly what do we actually hear. “CHANGE” It is easy to tell that our country is heading in the wrong direction, look at the approval rating of the president and congress; it doesn’t take a genius to see it. But Obama was the first to say it, but what exactly will he change, because everything he wants to change we have heard before. Everything he wants to change I heard from John Kerry four years ago, and why now, what makes it so special. Is it the war, the economy, or is it simply that we need someone else to blame and need someone to makes us feel better, so Obama is the person we tend to follow, and again why him? What is it that makes us feel so confident in this man, who isn’t in the arena, and has only been a spectator of the art of politics for just a few years. Years down the road we will hear of the consequences of this election, like we already hear from the election just four years ago, but we have to live through it. This is our generation and I don’t believe that we need to entirely change the system from out to in, but rather change from in to out. So again I ask you this, is McCain the man in the arena, for me I simply just answer this, he is at least in the arena, and Obama is sitting on the outside.
